The big day is here! Your real estate photoshoot is today, which means a photographer will soon arrive to capture stunning images that will help you sell your home quickly. But now, you’re starting to wonder…is there anything you should do to prepare? The short answer is - yes! There are definitely a few things you can do in advance to make sure both you and the property are all set for those amazing photos.

1. Declutter, declutter, and…declutter!

Similar to a showing, it’s important that the photographer can capture the space while it’s clean and open, allowing potential buyers to imagine the home as their own. By removing unnecessary items from countertops, shelves, or floors, you help create a more spacious, inviting atmosphere that will look great in photos. This gives the photographer the opportunity to focus on the property’s best features and bring out the full potential of the space.

2. The Importance of Natural Lighting

Fortunately, your photographer will take care of making sure all blinds and curtains are open to let in natural light. However, it’s always a good idea to help out by setting this up in advance! By opening all curtains and blinds ahead of time, you create a bright, airy atmosphere that will make the home look more inviting. This natural light helps showcase the space, making it feel more open and livable for potential buyers.

3. Stage the Space (Only if it is Needed!)

Adding a few pieces of furniture or decor can really help highlight the home’s best features in photos. Simple touches like fresh flowers, decorative throw pillows, or a stylish rug can make the space feel inviting and lived-in without looking cluttered. These small additions create a warm, welcoming atmosphere that allows potential buyers to easily imagine themselves living there.

4. Tidy Up the Exterior

The exterior of your home is one of the most important aspects of any property! When the outside looks fantastic, it signals to potential buyers that the inside is just as well cared for. Simple tasks like mowing the lawn, trimming the bushes, sweeping the driveway, and clearing any clutter will help create the perfect setting for exterior photos. However, if you’re short on time and can't get everything cleaned up, don't worry! Our editing team can likely fix any details that were missed. Keep in mind, the exterior is the first thing buyers will see, both online and in person, so a tidy yard can really make a difference.

5. Removing All Personal Items

While this step might feel a bit repetitive, as it’s similar to what we mentioned in step one, it’s worth emphasizing—especially when it comes to photos. By removing family photos or personal artwork, you help create a neutral space that allows buyers to imagine themselves living there. Personal items in photos can be distracting and may create a tone that doesn’t appeal to potential buyers. Making sure these items are cleared out before the photoshoot or edited out later is a final, important step to ensure your photos look their best!

At the end of the day, these tips are here to guide you and answer any questions you may have before your photoshoot. If you can’t get everything done before the photographer arrives, no worries at all. Our photographers are fully equipped with the know-how to help you and ensure your photos turn out looking amazing!
